According to the American Hair Loss Association (AHA), 1.4 million Americans have at least 1,500 to 2.5 million hairs and this number increases to about 2.5 million in the United States. Approximately one-quarter of all American men are affected by hair loss. This can significantly impact a person's self-esteem and quality of life.
There are two main types of hair loss treatments, and the first is finasteride and the second is a combination of the two.
Finasteride is the active ingredient in the 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor (5ARI) and it is a potent inhibitor of type II 5α-reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp. DHT plays a key role in the development of male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) androgenetic alopecia is one of the most common male pattern hair loss conditions. It is also one of the most common male sexual diseases, affecting approximately 2 million people worldwide.
Propecia is a hair loss treatment that inhibits 5α-reductase and thus stops the conversion of testosterone into DHT, which is responsible for hair loss. It is available in several forms, including topical solutions, pills, and tablets. It is a prescription medication and should be taken under medical supervision.
Propecia was developed by Pfizer in the late 1970s by the research team of Professor Paul W. Lechleiter, who was an expert in hair loss and baldness. In 1997, Professor W. H. K. Cheung, who was in charge of the research, was the first to report on the use of Propecia in treating male pattern baldness. This study was the first to examine the clinical use of Propecia in treating hair loss.
Finasteride is a 5α-reductase inhibitor that is a potent inhibitor of type II 5α-reductase. It is also a drug that inhibits type I 5α-reductase, which is responsible for converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp.
Propecia is a drug that inhibits type II 5α-reductase and prevents DHT from converting testosterone to DHT. Propecia is available as a tablet, a gel, and a cream. Propecia is a prescription medication that is approved for use as a topical solution. It is also available in a convenient oral tablet form. Finasteride works by inhibiting DHT and can be used to treat male pattern baldness and reduce hair loss in men.
Finasteride is a drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss in adults and the elderly. It is available in the United States, but it is not FDA-approved to treat male pattern baldness. In fact, in the United States, it is not a drug for the treatment of hair loss. Finasteride is not a prescription medication.
The main side effects of Propecia include a reduced libido (sex drive), decreased volume of ejaculate (male ejaculation), and loss of sexual ability and interest in sex (erectile dysfunction). It also causes sexual dysfunction. In addition, the side effects of Propecia may be more severe than those of other hair loss medications, such as finasteride.
Propecia is a prescription drug and should be taken under medical supervision. Finasteride is not indicated for patients who have not responded to other hair loss treatments or those who have been discontinued or stopped the treatment. Finasteride should not be used by women who are experiencing infertility or those who are pregnant or nursing.
Finasteride is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to any of its components.
The 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor (5ARI) works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp.
A. Definition:Finasterideis an anti-androgen which blocks the action of enzymes that break down and block the hair follicles' ability to produce and retain hair. This mechanism of action is important for reducing the size, androgen levels in the male body.
B. History:
In the early 1970's, researchers discovered that finasteride caused shrinkage of hair follicles in the head and neck region and that the inhibition of their conversion by the enzyme 5 alpha reductase may be responsible for this effect. This led to the development of a new drug that reduced the size of hair follicles and also increased the number of hairs in the scalp.
C. Effects on DHT and DHEA
D. Historical to Finasteride
E. The effects on DHT and DHEA are not known. Efficacy of finasteride has not been studied in clinical studies, but there have been some reports of a possible inhibition of DHT production and a possible enhancement of DHEA levels. Although these are not known, inhibition of DHT by finasteride is known to be an androgen-dependent process which means that there may be other mechanisms at work in the male body that could also affect DHT production.
